SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside baseball senior Kade Yasui was named Tuesday as the Great Plains Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his relief performance last week in Florida.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside baseball senior Kade Yasui was named Tuesday as the Great Plains Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his relief performance last week in Florida.

Yasui, a senior from Mililani, Hawaii, got the win by striking out seven in 4 1/3 innings on March 3 in an 8-6 win over Cornerstone. Of the 63 pitches he threw, 40 were strikes. That was good for an average of 14.54 strikeouts per nine innings.

Yasui also didn't allow a hit while walking just one batter, generating a WHIP of 0.23. He was solid defensively, too, recording a putout and an assist in two total chances on the mound.

On the season, Yasui has pitched 8 1/3 innings, striking out nine and walking four.
