Ten Mustangs tally GPAC All-Conference honors
Four men made the GPAC First Team list, while there were three Mustangs on the second team and honorable mention.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Ten Morningside University baseball student-athletes on Wednesday were named to the All-Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball teams. Four men made it as first teamers, while there were three Mustangs on the second team and honorable mention.
Here are the players listed, by team, in alphabetical order.
Michael Delzell, outfielder: Delzell reached base 45 percent of the time, and he was second in hits with 53. Twenty-two of those hits were extra-base knocks from the Camanche, Iowa, native, including seven home runs.
Sam Hanson, pitcher: Hanson appeared in 18 regular-season games, and he won four while also having one save. The Gowrie, Iowa, native recorded a 2.38 earned run average, while striking out 25 in 34 innings.
Ryan Kiolbassa, shortstop: For starters, the Mustangs senior from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, was very good defensively. Kiolbassa also earned the conference's Gold Glove at the shortstop position on Wednesday, recording a .952 fielding percentage. He had 116 assists, and had 61 putouts.
Offensively, Kiolbassa hit .343 predominantly from the lead-off position. He had a team-high 58 hits, and drove in 26 runs. He started in all 46 games this season.
Cade Nolan, pitcher: Nolan made 10 appearances, and all of them were as a starter. The Menifee, Calif., native earned six wins, and collected an ERA of 3.47. He had exactly a 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, at 62/31.
GPAC Second Team
Giacomo Crosetti, outfielder: Crosetti was second in team RBIs with 48, and he was one of six hitters with 40-plus hits. Crosetti also had 73 putouts.
Jacob O'Dell, third baseman: The Northridge, Calif., native slugged .579 for the Mustangs, and he led with 51 RBIs. O'Dell hit 11 doubles.
Michael Snyder, catcher: Snyder was third in hits with 49. He had seven doubles and hit two home runs. The Burien, Wash., native also helped lead the pitching staff to 321 strikeouts.
GPAC Honorable Mention
Luke Blackmon: Blackmon had an OBP of .454, and he was fifth in hits (47).
Rhys Fairweather: The Australian southpaw allowed nine earned runs in 18 2/3 innings, and he won two games.
Zach Koelfgen: In 10 innings, the Longmont, Colo., pitcher held opponents to a .121 average. He struck out 10 batters.
