Mustangs split pair to open Arizona campaign
TUCSON, ARIZ. – Morningside kicked off March baseball, splitting a pair of games in Tucson, Ariz. The Mustangs dropped a 6-4 heartbreaker to Division II Adams State, with the go ahead run on base in the bottom of the ninth, but quickly rebounded with an 11-2 throttling of Southwest Minnesota State University.

TUCSON, ARIZ. – Morningside kicked off March baseball, splitting a pair of games in Tucson, Ariz. The Mustangs dropped a 6-4 heartbreaker to Division II Adams State, with the go ahead run on base in the bottom of the ninth, but quickly rebounded with an 11-2 throttling of Southwest Minnesota State University.
Morningside's Mustangs took an early lead over SMSU, putting up a run in both the second and third innings before hanging crooked numbers in the fifth and seventh frames.
Brian Garcia and Ryan Kiolbassa each had a pair of RBI's for the Mustangs, while Kiolbassa and Jayson Willers each had team-leading three-hit games. Aiden Bishop, Elijah Rude, and Hunter Hope each had two hits, with Rude hitting a pair of doubles. Kiolbassa, Bishop, and Cade Nolan each had an extra base hit in the contest.
Bishop was the starter on the bump for the Morningside, throwing for 7.0 innings and giving up one earned run. The junior scattered five hits across his outing, walking one and striking out one.
Morningside is back in action tomorrow, playing Benedictine Mesa at 2 p.m. and Jamestown at 5 p.m.
