SIOUX CITY, IOWA – An eight-strikeout, six-hit gem highlighted Morningside University's regular-season finale Sunday, May 1.
Sophomore Aiden Bishop (Lincoln, Neb.) kept the Hastings College offense guessing throughout the nightcap at Mercy One Field at Lewis and Clark Park. He gave up only one earned run over seven innings, dancing through the Broncos putting a runner on base in each of the first four frames and then retiring nine in a row. Bishop concluded his mound appearance by thwarting a potential seventh-inning rally with two Ks that neutralized an error and hit.
Sophomore Josh Pratt (LeMars, Iowa) and senior Jordan Kyle (Lake Park, Iowa) closed out the 8-3 home team triumph, striking out five between them in the eighth and ninth innings. The offense posted ten hits, led by junior outfielder Carter Ades (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and senior outfielder Hunter Hope (Sioux City, Iowa), who each tallied two hits. Ades also drove in two runs and had one of the team's four doubles.
The Senior Day 2022 afternoon started on a rocky note. Hastings snapped a long road skid behind the gutty performance of starting pitcher Lane Harris. He went five innings with nine strikeouts to his credit. Freshman catcher Jayson Willers (Davenport, Iowa) did his level best to overturn the eventual 5-2 defeat, tallying two hits and two RBI.
Head coach Adam Boeve's squad concluded the regular and Great Plains Athletic Conference season at 31-15 overall and 17-11 in league action. They await their opponent in the 2022 GPAC postseason tournament, with the bracket announcement scheduled for Monday night, May 2.
