SIOUX CITY, IOWA – An 11-run, 13-hit game two attack enabled a critical Great Plains Athletic Conference split Friday, April 8.
Head coach Adam Boeve's Mustangs, looking to stop a four-game skid, took the measure of one of the league's top programs on Mercy One Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Freshman catcher Jayson Willers (Davenport, Iowa) smashed a double and triple among a four-hit, five-RBI outing, and junior designated hitter Elijah Rude (Hudson, Wis.) clouted a two-run eighth-inning single to end the nightcap early with the home team celebrating an 11-1 victory over Concordia University.
Junior southpaw Caleb Thomsen (Libertyville, Ill.) and freshman Josh Thurman (Surprise, Ariz.) limited the GPAC's top offense to seven hits while striking out ten. This gem followed a similar impressive mound performance from junior Wade Canaday (Marshalltown, Iowa). Canaday held the visitors to a run on five hits over five innings before Concordia rallied with ten tallies in the sixth to claim a 13-4 triumph.
Mside, moving to 18-10 overall and 5-9 in the conference, continues a four-game, three-day weekend slate Sunday, April 10. Game time is 1 p.m. at the University of Jamestown's Jack Brown Stadium.
