Bio
Onawa, Iowa, native Newell “Red” Williams played football for four seasons, track for three, basketball for two, and baseball for one during a busy Morningside athletic career. The 1927 graduate played quarterback for the Maroons, leading Morningside to a 6-2 overall record, and third place finish in the North Central Conference. Williams specialized in the quarter mile on the cinders, finishing second in the NCC meet as a senior, and fourth as a junior while anchoring the mile relay unit.
