Bio
Sioux City native Val Uken was a multi-sport athlete at Morningside, competing in volleyball, basketball, and softball. The West High School graduate was one of the early pioneers for women’s athletics at Morningside, competing in the Io-Kota Conference, and AIAW circles. She is believed to be the only female athlete to earn 12 varsity letters at Morningside, playing as an outside hitter, and defensive specialist, guard, and shortstop/centerfielder. She played on five conference championship teams, and played on the 1986 women’s basketball squad that finished 20-11, and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City.
