Bio
A name synonymous with tennis in Sioux City, Larry Mason left a deep imprint as a player, coach, and booster for his alma mater. The 1973 graduate compiled a distinguished high school, and collegiate coaching career at Sioux City North, and at Morningside. At North, Mason spent 21 seasons (1977-98) where he guided the Stars to a 192-58 record, boasting the state singles champion (Mike Inman) in 1979, and the team runner-up in 1993. Mason first coached at Morningside from 1974-76, then returned for ten more seasons (2008-17) where his women’s teams charted a 98-69 record, and won the Great Plains Athletic Conference title in 2016.
He was named GPAC Coach of the Year that season. His Mustang teams qualified for the NAIA National Championship in 2014, and 2016. Mason competed for the Maroons from 1969-73 as the number one singles player, and set a school record with a 32-16 match record. He was named M-Club Coach of the Year in 1979.
