Bio
The Hinton, Iowa native was recruited to play football, and basketball at Morningside, then his college career was interrupted by military service, where he was a member of the Army’s First Calvary Unit in World War II. Held returned to Morningside in 1948 to play football under NFL legend George Allen, earning the nickname “Ox.” He suffered a career-ending injury.
After graduation, Held worked in radio broadcasting at KSCJ, and KIDC before working in sales at Ralston-Purina, and Lundell Manufacturing.
