Bio

Under the leadership of coach Clayton Droullard, the 1954 Morningside Maroons football team captured the school’s first North Central Conference championship in 31 seasons by charting a 5-1 conference record. Morningside defeated South Dakota State 39-24 in the season finale to earn a share of the crown with the Jackrabbits. The previous week, Morningside defeated Iowa State Teachers College 20-12 on the road to set up a showdown with SDSU. The team was led by Little All-American quarterback Buck Miller, who was also named first-team All-NCC, and the league’s Most Valuable Player. Joining Miller on the All-NCC first team were Bob Miller, Roger Gohring, Kermit Issacson, and Darold Puff.
