Bio

A standout hailing from tiny Dumont (Iowa) High School, Dave Bigler held virtually every Morningside football rushing school record by the time of his graduation. The 1971 Associated Press Little All-American led Morningside to a 7-3 season that year by rushing for 1,325 yards, a single season record that stood for decades. In three seasons, Bigler gained 2,877 yards, and was named All-North Central Conference in 1970, and 1971.

He was named the league’s most valuable back in his senior season, and scored 13 career rushing touchdowns. Bigler had single game highs of 190 yards gained against Missouri Southern in 1971, and 1986 yards versus Missouri Western in 1970. As a junior, Bigler rushed for 798 yards, and 754 yards as a sophomore. In all, Bigler set six school records, including most rushing attempts in a game (37), season (258), career (587), and career rushing yardage (2877).

He was selected in the ninth round of the 1972 National Football League Draft by the Oakland Raiders, the 228th overall pick.
