Bio
Morningside’s Steve Ryan became the fifth Morningsider inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, following his induction at the American Football Coaches Association convention in Charlotte, N.C. yesterday.
Ryan holds a 219-42 record, following the 2022 campaign. His more than 20 years as head coach of the Mustangs has seen the program grow from a 5-5 team in its first season of NAIA competition to winning three national titles since 2018, posting undefeated records in those championship seasons. Ryan’s Mustangs have also claimed 12-straight league titles, with 13 Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships in his tenure.
Coach Ryan is a four time AFCA NAIA Coach of the Year and is a 11-time GPAC Coach of the Year.
Ryan joins A.W. Buckingham,1971; Don Protexter, 1971; Paul Splittorf, 1974; and John Reynders, 2021 in the NAIA Hall of Fame, becoming Morningside’s first entrant as a coach. Buckingham, Protector, and Reynders’ inductions were for meritorious service, while Splittorf’s was in recognition of his baseball career.
